Fifth Graders Creative Writing

Fifth Graders from Ms. Litton and Mrs. Bristers class may persuade us to make some changes in our lives! Read on!

Latin Class By Scarlet Houk

We really need a Latin class. There are several reasons why we need a Latin class. One reason is it is the root of all language words. Also, if someone said something rude to me in Latin, I could understand and tell the teacher. Another reason is it helps us in other languages. Like if in my next school, they teach Spanish, I will know a few words. In conclusion, we really need a Latin class. A Latin class will really help us in the future.

School Hours By Alex Smith

In my opinion, I think school needs to start later in the morning. It needs to start around 8:45 AM. rather than 7:30. My first point is when I get up, I wish it (school) didn't exist. Most mornings when I get to school, I'm still half asleep. The second reason is that it's way too early. I'ms always so sleepy that I can't think straight. Another good reason if school started later is that everybody would get a longer period of sleep. Nobody would be grumpy and asleep during class. In conclusion, school starting later would make everybody happier. Just look at all the good things there would be if school started later.

DOGS!!

Jack by Hanna Thomas

Do you want to know about the funniest family member in my home? His name is Jack. I really mean it. He is goofy like Scooby Doo and when he jumps in the air he explodes like a canon. He's so hyper that he runs so fast that you can't see him. He barks so loud, you can hear him a mile away. Did mention what breed and what color he is? He's a golden retriever mixed with a lab. His is also very stinky!! He won't let me give him a bath. He runs away from me and I can't tie him up or he'll choke form trying to get away. When I'm sad he makes me smile, and feel happy inside and have joy in my heart.

Roxi by BrandonMilton

My dog is named Roxi. Se is energetic. She makes me laugh and she's talented. Roxi is the most beautiful dog in the world to me. This beautiful sight is beige and white. It's amazing when she barks. Her eyes make you want to cuddle, and lover forever. My neighbors love her, too. Roxi is strong and fast as lightening. This magnificent dog weight fifty pounds and five ounces. When Roxi jumps on you, you would have no choice but to fall backwards. If she likes you, she will like your toes for some strange reason and if she doesn't like you, she will growl at you and her teeth will show. She has a rhinestone collar with a shirt that says "Good Girl". Whenever you see her, you would think she was a beautiful sight. That's Roxi, the greatest dog ever!

Happy by Juliette Richert

My grandfather's dog, Happy, is the sweetest dog in the world. He will sit still and let you pet him. He is also a tug-a-war lover. Happy is white as snow and scruffy. That dog is NEVER dirty. He is bathed once a week or more! Even though he's little, Happy barks when someone he doesn't know comes in the house. He can be very timid sometimes, too. He is very dependent on my grandfather. He never leaves his side! Happy is very faithful. Even though he may be scruffy in some places, his is the perfect pal to cuddle with when you're blue!

Tiara by Jordan Ervin

Tiara is the most wonderful dog in the world. She is so special to me. Everyday wwhen I get home she comes to gree me with love. Her coat is as white as snow. That's why she gets dirty a lot. Tiara has a brother named Junior. Thear are really close. They stay together 24-7. She is very smart when she wants to be. Tiara is very helpful when it comes to cleaning up. Most of the time when people try to pet her, she is clean and calm. When you try to make her do something that she doesn't like, she will just stand there and stare at you with her big, big, brown eyes. My dog Tiara is the most special dog in the universe.

Sally by Natalie Erwin

I have a neighborly dog named Sally. When a pedestrian crosses the street she barks really loud like someone is blowing a horn. When it comes to playing, she is very energetic. She loves to jump and run. Sally doesn't like taking baths because after we clean her, she runs and rubs against the fence and she rolls in the dirt. That is why she is so stinky. My dog is black, slender, and a little chubby. I would never trade Sally for another dog.

Buddy by Alex Smith

Buddy is one of the most lovable dogs you'll probablly ever meet. That dog belongs to me. He makes the best lap dog in the world. Buddy is a wise, young, short, small, golden-brown miniature dachshund. Everyday when I get off the bus, there he is waiting forme. It makes my day bright. In the house, he is quiet, lazy and calm, but when he's outside, he acts like a whole different dog. He is always super playful and he will sometimes play in my backyard for hours. One thing for sure, is tha he loves to race or run. Of course he wins most of the time because he's so fast. He's always trying to see whatever I have in my hands. I know he's just curious. Since Buddy's such a fast runner, he loves to chase birds, squirrels, sticks, and tennis balls. The reason he's so special and important to me is because he is my very first dog. He is like a brother to me, Brother Buddy. Another good thing is that when you're on the couch watching TV, if you get cold, he'll come and lay in your lap and it is like a heating blanket. So if you've had a lonely day, one look at his little pitiful puppy face and you will have a new friend.

If your child would like to submit a poem or paragraph for the website, please email it to arichert@bellsouth.net.

Coach Daniel's efforts have brought in $54,000 in grant money from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of MS to support Project Fit America program and new equipment (constructed in center island in front of the school). These grants also paid for a 1/4 mile walking trail in that area. Thanks to Coach Meador, Dr. Stone and everyone who helped make this program a reality.
PE Fun Run

Students had a great time running as many laps as they could, for the PE Fun Run. All together, they ran over 1000 miles-the distance between Ridgeland and Grand Junction, Colorado.

We are so proud to see fitness levels improve in our students.

Fifth Grade Field Trip a Great Success

HES fifth graders met about 5:15 AM last Friday, for their field trip to the McWane Science Center in Birmingham. Students explored the exhibits, including one about Leonardo DaVinci's inventions. Attendees could ride a bike suspended high in the air across the foyer (with a safety net below)-riders stayed balanced due to the counterweight hanging below the bike. Students explored dinosaurs, physics, geography, a 78 mph wind tunnel, and a sea life exhibit. The day concluded with an IMAX movie in the IMAX dome theater, Under the Sea. Buses pulled into HES about 7:30 PM-it was a wonderful day for the students.
